Gregory is a minor character in the play. He is of the house of Capulet, and a friend to Sampson. Gregory confronts Sampson about the fact that he complains, yet does not act on the fact that he hates all Montagues. As they're talking, Gregory notices some Montague boys approaching, and warns Sampson of it. Sampson "bites his thumb" at them, which is a disrespectful gesture. Sampson and Gregory begin to quarrel with the Montagues.

Benvolio and Tybalt eventually join the quarrel as well, even though Benvolio was set on stopping the quarrel. Sampson, Gregory, the Capulets who fought, and the Montagues who fought all get in trouble for this fight due to the Prince's arrival.
